Adverbial
Clause adalah Clause (anak kalimat) yang berfungsi sebagai Adverb, yakni
menerangkan kata kerja. Adverbial Clause biasanya diklasifikasikan berdasarkan
"arti/maksud" dari Conjunction (kata penghubung yang mendahuluinya).
Salah satu jenis dari adverbial clause yaitu time clauses.
Time clause merupakan klausa yang menunjukkan waktu.
Biasanya dibuat dengan menggunakan conjunction (kata penghubung) seperti after,
before, when, as, dll.
a)
Before/After
We
use before or after to put actions in sequence.
Example
: After she had washed the dishes, she watched TV.
Jennifer
will speak with Jack before she makes a decision.
b)
When
We
use when to show actions in quick succession.
Example
: When the spring starts to unwind, the gears engage.
c)
As
When
two things happen at the same time we can also use words like as. It
is commonly used adverb clauses with time. When an adverb clause begins
the sentence, use a comma to separate the two clauses. When the adverb
finishes the sentence, there is no need for a comma.
Example
: He was shot in the back as he tried to escape.
As we were going home, we came
across our old friend.
